Butterflies Childminding Services is a well-established local eco-friendly family-run setting, in the heart of Gloucester, at the base of Robinswood Hill Country Park.

The setting has been established since September 2014 and has been awarded ‘Outstanding’  in all areas, by OFSTED in both 2016 & 2020 for its exemplary care. We are a unique, family-run setting and our curriculum is based around nature and the seasons we are the only accredited ‘Curiosity Approach Setting’ in the whole of Gloucestershire. Furthermore, we have been awarded two prestigious eco-friendly awards for our contribution to sustainability and protecting the planet. Firstly ’Surfers Against Sewage’ and secondly ‘Kids Against Plastic’. We have Solar panelling fitted on our setting roof and our carbon footprint is low in producing an eco-sustainable environment for years to come.

Exploration, Awe and Wonder

Children explore the world around them and our pedagogy is not limited to indoors. Children will have lots of opportunities to explore outside and we view the outside environment as the most powerful resource available to us. We use our extensive outdoor area for children to learn through endless possibilities to explore, create and be curious. Using authentic resources, loose parts and recycled materials is at the forefront of everything we do. 

Child Led Discovery

We pride ourselves in offering a unique range of resources for the children encouraging them to be the pilots of their own play. We provide open-ended, natural, loose parts, intelligent resources and authentic items and with our gentle interactions with the children, we fully support and scaffold each child’s learning and development while they are engaged in their chosen activities. These activities range from construction, water, sand & digging, the outdoors, creative stations, small world, malleable materials, home corner, musicality, the senses and the power of storytelling.

Independence and High Expectations

We encourage children to independently make choices through our heart-centred approach, following children’s specific interests and each child's learning style. 

We support children to build relationships, creating sociable, happy children who will be confident in making friends. We constantly reflect, we are evolving and we look at understanding the specific children in our care. The relationships that we develop with both children and families help us to achieve higher than normal levels of learning for all children in our care, we do not offer an ordinary early years experience for children but an extraordinary start to life, we aim to inspire the next generation of children and through the Curiosity Approach Accreditation, the results and impact can be seen with the children in our care.

Community  & Capital Culture

Children are taken into the community and meet with people from all walks of life. We offer children opportunities to experience church and the local cathedral, Gloucester quays and waterways, the library, playgroups to socialise with other children and trips to the retirement home. We want children to love their close community as well as the bubble of children they are in.
